ART Sunil Vallarpadom's art has evolved over the years and it now occupies a larger canvas...

Another interesting work on show is the Owls.

With more than hundred owls staring intensely the canvas has a visual appeal that's astounding. The green diptych is extraordinary.

A triptych [three works together] placed vertically form the imposing 12 footer of a work that overwhelms just as it delights. A huge tall, giant of a man with a violin is the artist's memory of his father as he stood little beside the musician.

The image remained down the years to be painted large, and intense as the memory.

Comments on V. B. Venu

V B Venu's frames are populated by elongated figures, a mix of myth and reality.

As a result, the ethereal and the surreal combine in a style that is also a manifestation of Venu's emotions and creativity. Not limiting himself to a single medium, Venu uses watercolours, acrylic, ink and charcoal among others... what he attempts at the end of the day is to set people thinking...

V B Venu's works are an intimate interpretation of Indian miniatures...

"Venu does not narrate a story - the story is in his mind, and what he spins out is an amalgam of forms, contemporary designs and myths. Perhaps this is what draws one to his works. There are several layers of meaning in each painting, which gives it a surreal quality...
Many objects are in a state of flux or dissolution, giving the impression of metamorphosing into others. Thus the human, animal and vegetal trace nostalgia in mixed-colour tones, evoking a fairly-tale lyricism.

"His work is delicate and mysterious, a fascinating combination of the figurative and the symbolic. The paintings reward the viewer in a sequence- at first the impact of the richness of the colours, a blend of luminosity and density, then the revelation of layers of detail and the technical mastery which produces a rich narrative"

J. Salveson, London, U.K

"Venu's paintings display an interface between a 'certain' sort of mythical symbolism, with a design oriented appearance. It appears as if the figures represent an episode...standing still before the viewer to contemplate. Balancing between their objective beauty and subjective idealism. A poetic expression of a pure state of being."

His works speak of a magical other-worldly landscape.
Playful gravitas of this world and yet not.
Invites the viewer to see beyond what is presented. The layers of work are conducive to thinking...
